Mangold’s STAR WARS To Shoot This Year?

Many have been announced, but few have actually happened. Such is the state of modern cinematic Star Wars that any and all announcements are now greeted with a degree of cynicism. Including this news. James Mangold’s Star Wars movie will be going before cameras this year, with a December start being targetted.

Ford vs. Ferrari and Logan (and Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, but we are trying to ignore that) director Mangold first announced his Star Wars project when he was still in post on the Indiana Jones flop.

All we know so far is that many people refer to it as Star Wars: Dawn Of The Jedi, although this is not an official title. It is set 25,000 years before the events of the original trilogy and looks at the origins of the Jedi order. Beau Willimon (House of Cards) is a co-writer.

Mangold has insisted that he is getting creative freedom, possibly to allay fears of a standard. top-down, Lucasfilm driven clusterf*ck. The report from MyTimeToShineH was the first to mention this December shooting date.

That would mean the script must be practically finished, and casting conversations must have started at least with agents around availability.

Mangold was also set to direct Swamp Thing at DC Studios. Is this Lucasfilm getting in early before DC took Mangold off the pitch for a year? If Star Wars goes first, Swamp Thing won’t be happening until around 2027.

The Mandalorian & Grogu opens in May 2026, and last week we reported that Shawn Levy’s Star Wars project might have received a boost into fast-track production.

The Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy-directed and Daisy Ridley-led Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie might not be completely dead, as it has a new writer in the form of George Nolfi.
