Meet The Vorhees

Everybody knows Jason Vorhees, the protagonist of most of the Friday the 13th franchise.

Across twelve slasher films, two television shows, novels, comic books, video games, and even tie‑in merchandise, fans of the genre have followed him, or mostly him, hacking and slashing his way through unsuspecting teens who just wanted to have sex somewhere.

Now, with the tedious inevitability of an unloved season, there is going to be a prequel show. Because of course. Two new posters have now been released for the show, Crystal Lake, and they promise:

“Before Jason…There Was Pamela”

The posters show a blurry Linda Cardellini as the young Jason Voorhees’ mother, and also Callum Vinson as Jason himself. Cue canoe jump scares and origin stories of a machete.

Cardinelli and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane appeared at an NBC backlot promotional event on Monday where they talked about the show and said expect something different from the 80s movies, but also promised that fans need not worry, as Pamela will be doing what is expected of her within the show.

The production is a joint venture between NBC Universal and A24.

Crystal Lake will debut on Peacock in the US, and Sky Atlantic in the UK. It will launch on October 15th worldwide, with all eight episodes arriving at once for a binge watch.
