No, not more Godzilla Vs. Kong – although that is inevitable – but more, actual, real, and proper Godzilla from our industrious little friends across the Pacific. Godzilla Minus One made huge bank and won an Oscar. So here we go again.
Toho has given the green light to a new film in the franchise, and the writer/director of Godzilla Minus One will return to direct. No further details were announced, so we don’t know if this is a direct sequel to Minus One.
It is the North American-wide re-release of Godzilla Minus One in America. This is in time for Godzilla Day, as November 3rd was the date of the debut of the original movie in 1954 back in Japan. Does anyone here observe Godzilla Day? What do you do? Dress up in a suit and stomp a city to death?
Minus One made $115 million worldwide on a $15 million budget, making it the third-highest-grossing foreign-language film in U.S. box office history, one of the most profitable, and in the process embarrassed pretty much all of Hollywood around cost control and VFX capabilities.
The film won the Best Visual Effects Oscar.
Toho announced the new project in the leanest possible way on their official X channel.
