Frank Castle/The Punisher will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Jon Bernthal will appear alongside Tom Holland in the Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios co-production.
The only thing known about the plot are a few snippets in things like IMDb listings. This movie will follow the events of Avengers: Doomsday and will feature Peter Parker focusing on college and spending less time as Spider-Man, in a world that has forgotten Peter Parker is Spider-Man as per the events of No Way Home.
The title is taken from a comic. In Marvel’s Brand New Day, like in the movies, there have been some timeline shenanigans resulting in adjustments to Spidey’s history.
Spider-Man’s secret identity has also been forgotten by everyone, including people who knew his identity before his public unmasking. Although “some people” vaguely recall that Spider-Man unmasked himself during the events of the Civil War comic, they do not remember whose face was under the mask.
There is no word yet on how The Punisher will figure in this story, however a clue might be in the publicity snippet that states when a new threat endangers his friends, he must break his promise and suit up again, teaming with an unexpected ally to protect those he loves. Is that ally Frank Castle?
Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas co-star, while Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will return but are expected to have smaller roles.
Bernthal just reprised the role again for the first season of Daredevil: Born Again.
Some of the cast and many of the crew will roll straight off Avengers: Doomsday in the UK and into shooting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will film this summer.
Destin Daniel Cretton directs, and themovie has set a July 31st 2026 release.
