Review: VENOM – THE LAST DANCE

Again, on the ‘there’s not much to watch’ list, Venom: The Last Dance is now on streaming. My attitude was ‘I might as well’.

Venom: The Last Dance stars Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Graham, Peggy Lu, Clark Backo and Andy Serkis, but as voice only. Kelly Marcel is the writer and director.

The Story

The plot is:

Eddie Brock and Venom must make a devastating decision as they’re pursued by a mysterious military man and alien monsters from Venom’s home world.

Honestly, that is about it for the story. The rest of the movie was about Venom and Eddie going from one scene to the next. I think the main problem is, I just didn’t care.

I have seen the first two Venom movies, and they are just OK. Not terrible, not great, just OK. The first one had, um, Eddie and he met Venom. Now I think about it, that’s all I can tell you about the first one.

In the second one, it had Woody Harrelson in it and a scene with a motorbike. I think, I honestly can’t remember. As I’ve always said, I’ve never read the books, comic, novels etc, so I’ve never known the lore.

With this in mind, I don’t care about Venom or Eddie. For me, the movies have been about a CG Venom, killing people, Eddie not really liking the killing and that’s about it. The Last Dance is more of the same.

Is It The Last Dance?

I’m not really spoiling to much here, but there is an overlord of sybiote that wants to take over the world. We meet him at the beginning of the movie, he sends of monsters to kill Venom and then we see him at the end.

Venom never actually meets or fights him so, at the end of the movie, he’s still threatening to take over the world. They seem to separate Venom and Eddie and make it clear they aren’t getting back together. The ending though suggests they want to do another movie.

I don’t know what’s going on, I don’t write these things. Pity really, because I bet I could do better than most of the creatives in Hollywood. The problem is, I’ve never sold my soul to the devil and I’m not going to, I heard he’s a bit of a rotter.

Overall

This is a short and sweet review, best summed up as: If you liked the first two, you’ll probably like this one. If you didn’t like the other, don’t bother with this one. I wished I hadn’t bothered, but then, I did watch it while working, it was literally passing time.

Venom: The Last Dance is now streaming.
