The second season of Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s military action drama SAS Rogue Heroes finally arrives tonight. It will continue the origin story of the SAS, the world’s first special forces unit, that operated behind enemies during World War II and paved the way for everything that came afterward in the realms of unconventional warfare.
The first season was based on the historical book of the same name by historian Ben Macintyre. Unbelievably, the exploits portrayed in the series really did happen.
This second season will pick up in spring 1943, with the action shifting from Cairo to mainland Europe, as Paddy Mayne (Jack O’Connell) takes control of the SAS following David Stirling’s (Connor Swindells) capture.
Despite the legendary exploits in the North Africa campaign, HQ has cast doubt over the future of the regiment, leaving their sponsors fighting a political battle even as the war calls for their skills. The creation of a second unit and an influx of new arrivals make things even more difficult for the men, as they set out to prove that the SAS remains essential to the war, wherever it may lead them?”
Alongside O’Connell, Dominic West and Sofia Boutella return, and Swindells returns as Stirling. New additions to the cat include Con O’Neill (Happy Valley) as British Commander General Montgomery, and Mark Rowley (The Last Kingdom), and Jack Barton (Heartstopper) as new SAS recruits Jock McDiarmid and John Tonkin.
SAS Rogue Heroes season 2, episode one will air on BBC One at 9pm in the UK tonight. After this, it will be available on iPlayer. In the US it will be carried on MGM+ with a release date a few days later.
