Hollywood likes money, and they can never make enough. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now made just shy of $2.5 billion at the box office. Putting it just behind Avengers: Endgame and Avatar.
There is talk that Endgame will overtake Avatar, due to the re-release of Endgame: Encore; you can see Hawk’s review here.
Now, with Avengers: Doomsday coming out, you can kind of understand why they re-released it, with the new extra 2 minutes of footage, which ties in Doomsday. So, it kind of makes sense to do it, even though it also seems like a cash grab.
However, there is now news going around that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be doing the same. At the moment, we don’t know how much new footage there will be, but according to Deadline, it would include Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.
I had to look Claire up, but she is also known as Night Nurse and appeared in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage.
The talk about the Spider-Man re-release is the same reason as Encore: to add more ready for Doomsday. As I said, they do love money; re-releasing a movie that’s less than six months old, in time for Doomsday, which they knew was coming out.
With how successful it has been, I’ll bet they wanted to do a re-release just to make it the highest-grossing movie of all time, overtaking Avatar.
I really hope it doesn’t, as you know, James Cameron will then re-re-release Avatar with newly rendered grass cuttings in 8k.
