It started semi-brightly. Fell apart pretty quickly. Some people say the latter season was actually pretty good, but by then I had stopped watching. Now Paramount+ has released the full trailer for the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery, so those who are so inclined can find out how it all ends. This will premiere on April 4th on Paramount+, and on other platforms globally.

The final run season following the crew of the USS Discovery under Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) begins with two launch episodes and then a weekly release.

This new season sees the crew of the Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. Has somebody been reading Robert Holdstock’s The Dark Wheel again?

Of course, others are also looking for it, dangerous people, and the Discovery will be forced into the fight for survival.

Returning crew include Saru (Doug Jones), Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Doctor Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala), Trill scientist Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio), and Starfleet Academy instructor Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman).

New joiners this season are Callum Keith Rennie as Captain Rayner, Eve Harlow as Moll, and Elias Toufexis as L’ak.

Previous guest stars will return, including Oded Fehr as Charles Vance, and Tig Notaro as Jett Reno. Also, hilariously, David Cronenberg will make another appearance as Kovich.

This latest season of Discovery was only… erm… discovered to be the last after it was shot in 2022, so they allowed several days of additional shooting to ensure the show had a proper conclusion.
