Streep Says Villains “Marvelised”

Meryl Streep is now a grand dame of cinema with a career spanning decades, so she has seen trends across film come and go.

The Academy Award winner was interviewed alongside Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt on Hits Radio Breakfast Show in the UK by Fleur East as part of their promotion for The Devil Wears Prada 2, and was asked if her character really has softened this time out.

Streep said this makes her more interesting as a character, and to play:

“I feel like you get a realistic view. I think we tend to Marvel-ize the movies now. We got the villains and we got the good guys, and it’s so boring.

What’s really interesting about life is that some of the heroes are flawed and some of the villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths. So that’s what I like about this [movie]. It’s messier.”

Streep also revealed she originally tuned down the role in the original and they came back and doubled her alarm to secure her.

She claims this was the first time in her career she had that experience.
