A couple of weeks ago, we covered the reports that the shortlist for the new Supergirl was down to three. It turns out there were four, but now that list has been reduced to a final two contenders.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, closed-screen tests for the role took place earlier this week in Atlanta, Georgia and this is what narrowed the field. Priscilla star Cailee Spaeny and CODA actress Emilia Jones are apparently out of the running.

Who is left in the final two?

First up is Milly Alcock, the actress who played young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon.

The other runner is Meg Donnelly, star of The CW’s The Winchesters, who already voices Supergirl in recent and current DC animated movies.

James Gunn and Peter Safran were reportedly present at the screen tests. This iteration of Supergirl will make a brief cameo appearance in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, then feature as the lead in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

The reports say that movie will be an adaption of Tom King’s highly-rated comic run of the same name, and that Ana Nogueira’s script is a “sci-fi epic”.
