Lord of War is a movie that, with the benefit of hindsight and viewed from today, appears ahead of its time.
Coming out in 2005, the Andrew Niccol-directed movie arrived into what was arguably a more naive, and therefore more gentle feeling, world.
The final scenes land particularly powerfully on a rewatch.

You can’t say the same about the world of 2026. Everybody now knows how dirty and underhand everything really is, behind the veil.
So how will a sequel – Lords of War – land in this considerably more awake world? We are about to find out.
Vertical has premiered the teaser trailer for Lords of War, and Nic Cage is back in the lead role of Yuri, a gun runner and arms dealer who has his fingerprints on a lot of shady violence across the world.
Shooting took place in Belgium, Morocco and Egypt through early February this year. Bill Skarsgård (IT), Laura Harrier (Spider-Man Homecoming), Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049) and Greg Tarzan Davis (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning) are new joiners for the sequel.
Cage’s Yuri ends up facing off against his own son who has followed his father into the arms trade but is going deeper.
He is amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s conflicts in the Middle East, and the two soon clash.
Cage, Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi are producing, and Skarsgård is executive producing.
Lords Of War is set for a January release. While you wait, revisiting the original is well worth your time.
