Teaser Trailer: CRYSTAL LAKE

Friday the 13th introduced us to a new killer, Mrs Voorhees. The sequels went on to make her son the killer, Jason. It’s nice to keep things in the family. All of this happened at Crystal Lake. Paramount have released a trailer for the prequel, about Mrs Voorhees.

The story for Crystal Lake is about Pamela Voorhees and takes place before the events of the original Friday the 13th movie. According to reports, it’s set a year after Jason’s drowning in the lake.

This means it would take place in 1958, but the setting for the TV show is in the 1970s. Apparently, the reason for this is:

“…to touch on all the pop-culture artifacts that were tangential to the America from which these movies were born.”

That sounds like management speak. Since Crystal Lake is a prequel, I hope they pay more attention to the details than that.

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane says that the series examines Pamela’s emotional response to the loss of her son. Oh good, we’re getting behind the emotions of a killer. Kane is quoted:

“We wanted to dive into Pam’s psychology. We wanted to see her unraveling. … We wanted to see her relationship with Jason and what his death kicks off in her — her trying to find some sort of equilibrium in her life after the thing that ostensibly she lives for, her son, was taken away from her, and how all the people around her and the circumstances surrounding her make that impossible to do. So it’s really a character piece.”

I don’t know about you, but the more I read, the more I don’t really want to see any of this.

Crystal Lake will be streaming on 15th Oct on Paramount.
