In the ‘They probably shouldn’t do it’ news, there is a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds on the way. According to Deadline, HBO has ordered a series and cast Sarah Snook.
Deadline reports that the new limited series will be more of a murder mystery based in Alaska. Why would there be a murder mystery in there? Don’t know.
However, the news just keeps getting better. Tom Spezialy will serve as writer and executive producer. He’s best known for HBO’s Watchmen series. He is also producing the new Harry Potter series, but the jury is out on that one until it airs. Personally, I couldn’t finish the Watchmen, as it was just terrible.
This new The Birds limited series is a “visceral, present-day reimagining” of Hitchcock’s original movie. The series casts Snook as the main protagonist: she investigates a disappearance, and then birds attack her.
Even though the series will draw on the original movies, but more on the original novella by Daphne du Maurier. The plot synopsis:
Escaping a bitter custody battle, Myra (Snook) returns home with her young daughter, secretly probing a childhood friend’s suspicious disappearance. With a killer on the loose and personal threats mounting, she fights to protect her daughter against a terrifying new menace: vicious, deadly bird attacks inexplicably tied to the crime.
Snook being cast is about the only good news in this article. Everything else sounds like everything wrong with a lot of modern TV.

Interesting fact: The Birds (the movie) has no music in it. Apart from a song sung by the school children and the end credits.
