Blade Runner is a classic in cinema. It wasn’t fully appreciated when it first came out, but it gained more of a cult following over time. In fact, it’s now studied in some film schools.
When we all first heard about a sequel, back in about 2014 odd, we mostly rolled our eyes. The original is great, but it doesn’t need a sequel this late? But then you hear it’s by Denis Villeneuve and Harrison Ford is back. OK, let’s see how this goes.
Personally, I thought Blade Runner 2049 was a great movie. You had the same tone as the original, the music was good, the story was good, it was all good. It goes on to make over £250 million at the box office. You know what that means? There’s more money to be made.
In production at the moment is a new TV miniseries, Blade Runner 2099, set 50 years after the events of the sequel. Obviously, even I can do basic math. New members have been cast for the series.
There is no news on who’s playing who, but so far the cast has just added Michelle Yeoh, Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi. They are joining Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben and Hunter Schafer. Burke has recently been in Furioua: A Mad Max Saga.
There’s no news if Villeneuve is involved at the moment. The only director who has been attached is Jonathan van Tulleken. Most recently, he’s directed episodes of The Changeling and Shogun. I’ve missed both of these at the moment, but I heard that Shogun is very good.
The new Bladr Runner series is a live-action series being developed by Amazon Studios. Wasn’t there a recent anime spin-off? Did anyone watch it? Are you up for watching Blade Runner 2099?
