Cruise-Stunt

THE FINAL RECKONING Nearly 3 Hours

Mission: Impossible – Fallout was a great movie. It managed to overcome yet another IMF disavowal, more choppy-handed running and producers finding ever more inventive ways to get a major studio to fund Tom Cruise’s extreme sports addiction. It delivered a top-tier action thriller.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning was bloated, merged into the swirling morass of the rest of the franchise, and definitely felt like the series was approaching it’s conclusion at the right time.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning may be a whizz-bang swansong for Ethan Hunt and the IMF. It might also be in danger of suffering the same bloat, especially with the news that it is set to be the longest movie in the MI franchise out of all of them.

Mission-Impossible

The movie is finished. It is set for premiere and distribution, and it clocks in at 171 minutes. That is 2 hours and 51 minutes. That is in danger of making you feel like an adult trapped in a showing of A Minecraft Movie.

For context, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning was 146 minutes, and Mission: Impossible – Fallout was a positively sprightly 147 minutes. It’s about the same as Heat.

Nearly three hours of Tom Cruise running, falling off things, clinging on to things, climbing tall things, all while being disavowed. Rubber masks might also be involved.

The new movie apparently wraps up some threads from a lot of previous movies in the Mission: Impossible franchise, all while bringing the continuing storyline of The Entity to a close from the previous movie.

Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Angela Bassett, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, and Frederick Schmidt all co-star.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will premiere at Cannes on May 14th. There will be a UK release on 21st May, and a US release on 23rd May.
