Tis a Sunday, so it’s time to gather in the great halls for the Great Debate. We can be like the jurors in that trial in the US at the moment. 11 people are trying to convince you of something, but you, you alone stand against them. Are you right or wrong? Who knows, but your conviction is something you hold tight to; no matter what.
The great debate is based on Mayday, the new movie with Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. Hawk has done a review, and overall the movie was good fun. Back to a simpler time of ‘buddy movies’, with two actors in some kind of predicament.
In the 80s, we had Tango and Cash, 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon. Usually, it was a mismatch of people, like in Lethal Weapon. Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) was the by-the-book cop, just days from retirement. However, he is teamed up with Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson), who’s a loose cannon and suicidal. However, the team of Glover and Gibson just works. They play off each other perfectly and made a duo that is cemented in cinema history.
So, for the great debate this week, we’re asking:
What’s the best, but most unlikely, on-screen duo?
I’m not talking about duos like Laurel and Hardy, who made many movies together and had a great partnership. I mean like when The Nice Guys came out, and the combination of Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling just worked. You wouldn’t expect them to, but they did. What on-screen duo really worked for you? Their chemistry was great to watch.
