Well, it is official. The Christopher Nolan machine is not going to stop. The Odyssey has overtaken Deadpool & Wolverine to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
Earlier this week, it slipped past the Marvel movie and now sits at $1.35 billion worldwide, passing Deadpool at $1.33 billion, set in 2024.
Joker is third with $1.07 billion, and Nolan appears again in fourth with Oppenheimer at $983 million. Also for stats fans, The Odyssey is now Nolan’s highest-grossing movie, having passed The Dark Knight Rises with $1.08 billion.
It is expected to top out at around £1.6 billion, and pretty much guarantees that Nolan will remain able to demand huge budgets and final cut to make whatever he wants, as his movies make money. Lots of it. Ryan Reynolds has taken to social media to congratulate Nolan on the achievement.
Now, about that Nolan / Blue Thunder rumor from a couple of years ago…
