The Toxic Avenger finished filming in 2021, but now, after a long wait, we’re finally getting to see him in action, as a new teaser is online.
In this new version, Peter Dinklage plays Wilson, the picked-on kid who gets strong:
A horrible toxic accident transforms downtrodden janitor, Winston Gooze into a new evolution of hero: The Toxic Avenger.
The cast for The Toxic Avenger is Dinklage, Elijah Wood, Kevin Bacon, Macon Blair, Jane Levy, Jacob Tremblay and Julia Davis. Macon Blair is directing and writing, based on the original character by Lloyd Kaufman and Joe Ritter.
This new movie has an R rating for “strong violence and gore, language throughout, sexual references, and brief graphic nudity.” Reports mention a scene called “the butt guts scene.”
The Toxic Avenger was first released in 1984. It became a cult classic on VHS and Betamax tapes. Betamax, that takes me back, I think I have a copy of Battlestar Galactica on that somewhere.
It was originally produced by Troma Entertainment, who were best known for movies like; Class of Nuke ‘em High (1986), Tromeo and Juliet (1996), Chopper Chicks in Zombietown (1989) and Cannibal! The Musical (1993).
If they stick to the same formula as the original movie, then this reboot could actually be quite fun. Troma was known for farce, parody, gore and splatter. Chuck in some boobs and you got yourself a movie!
The Toxic Avenger will be in cinemas in August. I’m up for it.
