From the ‘worldwide phenomenon’ comes Children of Blood and Bone. Here is a trailer. Quick warning, the trailer has a trailer to tell you the trailer is about to start.
So basically, Black Panther, but with 80% more magic.
Children of Blood and Bone stars Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tosin Cole, Cynthia Erivo, Regina King, Damson Idris, and Amandla Stenberg. Where’s the diversity? Oh wait, sorry, diversity is a one-way street, isn’t it?
Gina Prince-Bythewood is directing, who is best known for The Woman King. A movie so historically inaccurate that it could barely use the term ‘based on a true story’. She writes the screenplay alongside Tomi Adeyemi, who wrote the novel of the same name. The story:
A woman blessed with magical powers by the gods and living in a place where you are forbidden to use them, teams up with a princess to summon the gods and bring down the oppressive regime.
Weird, they spelt men as regime.
Paramount are hoping that Children of Blood and Bone will be one of 2027’s biggest releases. There is a series of books, so there could be a franchise in it.
Interesting, at an event earlier this year, Paramount bigged up the movie. The original creator, Adeyemi, said she doesn’t plan on watching the finished movie. She is quoted as saying there is “a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work. That’s all.”
Wait, so the creator of the movie, who receives a co-writing credit, doesn’t want to see the movie? It must be a Cynthia Erivo thing; she’s pretty difficult to watch in anything.
Children of Blood and Bone will be in theatres on 15th Jan 2027. You know, the time they release all good movies.
