We love an aquatic beastie movie! Sometimes we ask ourselves why, as there is a lot of dross in the genre. What we wouldn’t give for something even half as good as Jaws 2 these days. Or Piranha. Can Below break the cycle?
The trailer looks promising. Netflix has dropped a teaser for the Josh Hartnett led mini-series.
Hartnett stars as fisherman Calvin Penney, a big‑hearted but stubborn man haunted by the mysterious death of his father decades earlier.
Soon, an unidentified sea creature begins terrorising his small Newfoundland hometown, and he must fight to hold his close-knit community together.
Determined to keep his son Wade (Charlie Heaton) and the rest of his family safe, Calvin teams up with a visiting marine researcher (Mackenzie Davis) to confront the creature and reveal the island’s buried secrets before it’s too late.
The rest of the cast includes Willow Kean, Ruby Stokes and Kaleb Horn.
The story is said to include elements of local myths and involve secrets close to the heart of the community, but the creative team behind it have also made sure to be clear – the threat is NOT supernatural.
