Matthew Vaughn is out doing publicity for Argylle, which opens this Friday in cinemas. While he was giving interviews, the talk turned to Marvel and Deadpool.

His work in the world of Marvel, X-Men: First Class, was outside of the main MCU but did kick off the most recent X-Men series of movies. He still talks to Marvel, and no doubt discusses projects. There have probably been meetings about some projects.

When appearing on the BroBible Post-Cred Podcast the discussion turned to the current MCU and Vaughn dropped some hints that he knows something about Deadpool 3. He seemed to reflect the point of view of many fans, that the MCU has lost its way post-Endgame and something needs to change. He had also previously talked about superhero fatigue and agreed it existed.

He says Deadpool 3 could be the thing that changes all this:

“The few snippets that I know about ‘Deadpool vs. Wolverine’ – or ‘Wolverine vs. Deadpool,’ I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak – are unbelievable.

That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them, and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.”

He went on to say it will open the way for new X-Men stories to be told in the MCU, somethignhe is looking forward to:

“I’m a genuine fan of the X-Men; all I want is for the movies to be as good as they should be.”

Deadpool 3 is out on 26th July and it is the only theatrical release from the MCU in all of 2024. Large swathes of the MCU are being re-tooled in this quiet period, including streaming shows. Is this to align with this upcoming “jolt” that Vaughn is talking about?
