In what has the makings of a potentially massive show for Netflix, Robert De Niro comes to streaming. Netflix is the platform, and they have dropped the full trailer for Zero Day. This limited series is his first foray into television.
In Zero Day, De Niro will play a respected former U.S. President, George Mullen, who is called in to help the current President (Angela Bassett) and appointed as head of the Zero Day Commission. In this role he is tasked with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber attack that has caused chaos around the country and killed over 3,000 Americans.
As he goes deeper down the rabbit hole, he will fight against disinformation and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and the government collide all with different agendas. Mullen’s skills and experience will be tested to the limit as the search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets.
Netflix has spared no expense on the supporting cast either. Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, and Matthew Modine, with Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg, and McKinley Belcher III all co-star.
The six-episode series was co-created by Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim, and New York Times writer Michael S. Schmidt who wrote an article on such a cyber attack.
Lesli Linka Glatter directed all episodes with De Niro serving as executive producer.
Zero Day will be released on the streaming service on February 20th.
