The new trailer for Fallout is now online and it looks OK. It’s difficult to get excited about it, because you know, it’s modern and current year, and in the Fallout TV series there’s a strong female protagonist. Also, it’s very hard to get excited about anything new these days.
Having said that, it does look rather good. I have played Fallout 3 & 4 to death and the inside of the vault looks very authentic. I didn’t like how they took the song, Set the World on Fire, and “updated” it though. I still remember that song from the trailer to Fallout 3. This poster does really blow my skirt up though.
It seems that the story is similar to the game Fallout 3:
Ella, an optimistic Vault-dweller with an all-American can-do spirit. Her peaceful and idealistic nature is tested when she is forced to the surface to rescue her father. Aaron Moten is Maximus, a young soldier who rises to the rank of squire in the militaristic faction called Brotherhood of Steel. He will do anything to further the Brotherhood’s goals of bringing law and order to the wasteland. Walton Goggins is the Ghoul, a morally ambiguous bounty hunter who holds within him a 200-year history of the post-nuclear world.
Jonathan Nolan is directing the first three episodes and says that the Fallout games are the GOAT:
“Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time. Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.”
Nolan has directed episodes of Westworld and Person of Interest in the past. I can’t say I got into either of them, but I know they have been popular. He has also worked with his brother, Christopher, writing movies like Momento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, and Interstellar. Not a terrible track record.
The game series is still very well-loved. Fallout 4 sold over 12 million copies in the first 24 hours and is still being played today. It was only a matter of time before someone wanted to make it into a show or movie.
Fallout, the series, will premiere on 11th April on Prime.
