Salem’s Lot is arguably Stephen King’s best book. It is nearly 50 years old now, and has been adapted only twice and both times for television. A new adaption, for the big screen, with a decent cast and serious horror talent behind the camera should have been a home run. So why, after it was completed two years ago, has it sat on a shelf at Warner Bros.?
The speculation was mounting that it would be another Warner Bros. tax write-down like Batgirl and Coyote Vs. Acme. That speculation can be put to rest now, as Warner Bros. has finally confirmed that it will be a Max exclusive with a debut on the streamer. We reported on this being likely back in November last year.
They are yet to give a release date for Salem’s Lot, but sometime around Halloween is looking likely.
Warner Bros. was denying a streaming debut was the plan for many months, but they have finally come clean.
Salem’s Lot stars Lewis Pullman as author Ben Mears, a man who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot to confront the ghosts of his past, and while there discovers the town is slowly being taken over by vampires.
The cast is completed by Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, William Sadler, Makenzie Leigh, John Benjamin Hickey, Pilou Asbæk, Jordan Preston Carter, and Spencer Treat Clark. It was written by well-regarded horror writer Gary Dauberman, who also directs. James Wan produced.
