When I hear the word Twisters, I can’t help but think of that bar in From Dusk Till Dawn. This new movie is not about that bar, which is a shame, anyway, back on point, Twisters has a trailer.
Obviously, you have to compare this to Twister as this is a straight-up reboot of the original, starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. In that original, everything felt real. There were teams trying to launch a device into a tornado. It was simple and effective. It’s not the greatest movie in the world, but it was enjoyable.
This new Twisters seems more like a supernatural sci-fi epic, with more CG than The Phantom Menace. In the original, as it seemed so real, there was a sense of danger even as you knew it was not real.
Here, no one seems to be in danger here as it’s mostly green screen and CG.
Twisters stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Katy O’Brian, Maura Tierney, Anthony Ramos, David Corenswet and Sasha Lane. Lee Isaac Chung is directing and Micheal Crichton, Joseph Kosinski and Anne-Marie Martin are writing.
I will say, that seeing Kosinski’s name is a little ray of hope.
The blurb, from IMDb, is:
An update to the 1996 film ‘Twister’, which centered on a pair of storm chasers who risk their lives in an attempt to test an experimental weather alert system.
So it’s a reboot, re-imagining or whatever it is called these days. Twister was a hit but not a huge movie, I don’t see why it needs an update.
Twisters will be in cinemas 19th July.
