Thanos

Rumor: Thanos Back For SECRET WARS

In comic books, nobody is ever really dead. Between variants, multiverses, time travel, and the constant need to sell more funny books, no character death ever really sticks. With a lot of movement happening very quickly across the MCU, the rumor mill is working overtime.

According to online scooper  MyTimeToShineHello there is potentially big news in the world of mad, half the universe ending Titans. Thanos could be making a return.

This is wildly unconfirmed, but according to the scooper Josh Brolin is in talks to reprise the Thanos role for the upcoming Avengers movies, specifically Secret Wars. As The Beyonder gathers the forces of good and evil on Battleworld to make them fight for his own experimentation, could he pluck Thanos from oblivion to join the villain roster?

Across from them, the Avengers will once again assemble and be joined by other heroes as they are all whisked away to a distant planet to battle it out.

Avengers: Doomsday films in the New Year in the UK and lands on May 1st 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to film straight afterwards and has a May 7th 2027 date. The Russo Brothers return to direct both adventures.

Secret Wars was a 12-issue Marvel comic book crossover limited series published from May 1984 to April 1985. The series was written by Jim Shooter, with art by Mike Zeck and Bob Layton. It was tied in with a similarly-named toy line from Mattel and a role-playing game of the same name from TSR, Inc.

A cosmic entity, The Beyonder, becomes fascinated with Earth’s superheroes in the mainstream Marvel universe (616). He creates “Battleworld”, a planet in a distant galaxy, and stocks it with weapons and technology. He teleports groups of heroes and supervillains against their will to Battleworld, declaring:

“I am from beyond! Slay your enemies and all that you desire shall be yours! Nothing you dream of is impossible for me to accomplish!”

The X-Men featured heavily, and it was the original appearance of Spider-Man’s black symbiote suit. I don’t recall Thanos being part of the assembled villains.
