New from 20th Century Fox is The Amateur, a new action thriller starring Rami Malek and Lawrence Fishbourne. Here is a trailer.
It’s nice to see a trailer for something that might be good. It looks pretty action-packed and, if you can’t kill directly, try killing indirectly. The full plot is:
Follows a CIA cryptographer, who manages to blackmail his agency into training him to let him go after a group of terrorist who killed his wife in London.
The days of James Bond have moved, from tracking spies and stealing cars, to digital espionage. If someone wants to find you, just follow them on Facebook, they post every 20 minutes where they are and what they are doing. ‘Taking a selfie while having a dump #lolz’.
The Amateur stars Malik, Laurence Fishbourne, Holt McCallany, Caitriona Balfe, Julianne Nicholson, Rachel Brosnahan and Takehiro Hira. James Hawes is directing and Evan Katz, Robert Littell and Kan Nolan are the writers.
Hawes has an interesting resume, directing episodes of Black Mirror, Slow Horses, Snowpiercer, The Alienist, The Mist, Doctor Who (don’t worry, early episodes) and The Bill. For those who don’t know, The Bill is a police show that’s been on British TV for 320 years. I always like to see people come from things like The Bill to The Amateur.
The Amateur will be in theatres on the 11th of April 2025. What do you think? Does it look like something you’d watch?
