The ongoing car crash that is current Lucasfilm shows no signs of abating as yet another Star Wars release date is cancelled. Disney had an untitled Star Wars movie slot booked for a release on December 18th 2026.
This has now been pulled from the cinema release calendar altogether, so whatever was pencilled in for this date is cancelled, not delayed. Ice Age 6 will now take that slot. Meanwhile, Disney seems unable to get anything Star Wars-related off the ground cinematically outside of The Mandalorian and Grogu, which needed a TV show to give it momentum.
That will arrive in May 2026… allegedly.
New Jedi Order appears to be dead, joining the long, long list of everything else Lucasfilm has singularly failed to make a reality. Screenwriter Steven Knight walked away from this project recently.
They have made a big deal lately about Simon Kinberg coming on board to write a new trilogy. Things have sunk so low at Lucasfilm that the guy behind X-Men: Dark Phoenix is seen as a savior. James Mangold and Shawn Levy are still tacitly attached to projects. It appears that just as Andy Warhol said everyone will be famous for 15 minutes, so everyone will eventually be attached to a non-existent Star Wars project.
Still, at least there is Andor season 2 to look forward to.
