With Creature Commandos hitting Max this week, audiences are now getting their first glimpse inside the new DCU. Of course, the real big ticket item is Superman, due in theaters next summer. Ahead of this, we are due to get our first look at the trailer any day now.
An online report from Grace Randolph says that the film’s trailer is being shown to press the week of December 16th. The wider release and theater debut of the trailer will be after that.
Meanwhile, some of those involved in the production have given more of a hint about what to expect.
Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flagg Sr, has spoken about David Corenswet and his portrayal of Superman. In an interview with KristianHarloff he said:
“…with David, there’s something very Christopher Reeve about him. He’s got a stoicism. There’s a seriousness.
First of all, I’m 5’10. The guy stepped out from behind the curtain with the suit on, I was like, ‘Oh my, God! You are Superman!’. He encompasses this aura.
Superman to me was never morally derelict. Superman stood for something. He was steadfast. He was a naivete and a vulnerability about him – when I was watching Superman as a kid. And there’s something about this guy. I don’t know if I can articulate it but I was like, ‘Oh, this guy is Superman. He’s Superman’.”
James Gunn has also been talking about his inspiration for this version of Superman. On the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast he promised a version that has not been sen on the big screen before:
“I don’t think we’ve ever seen the big science fiction Silver Age Superman aspects that we have in our movie. We’ve never seen…you’ll see when the movie comes out, but we’ve never seen this specific part of Superman’s life.”
He also talked up Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, saying he will be more like the dangerous and calculating villain of the comics.
Superman opens in movie theaters in July 2025.
