The Boys from Brazil is a classic! It’s been a good while since I saw it last, so it’s going on the watchlist again. I’ll need to watch it before Netflix starts streaming a new series based on the original novel.
Peter Morgan will be writing, and serving as showrunner, for The Boys from Brazil. He is known for penning The Last King of Scotland, The Queen (with Helen Mirren), Frost/Nixon, Rush, Bohemian Rhapsody, and The Crown.
The original movie, from 1978, had the story:
A Nazi hunter in Paraguay discovers a sinister and bizarre plot to rekindle the Third Reich.
The Boys from Brazil starred Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, James Mason, Lilli Palmer, Denholm Elliot, Rosemary Harris, John Dehner and Steve Guttenberg. It was based on a novel by Ira Levin, who also wrote Rosemary’s Baby and The Stepford Wives. Now I have to watch those again as well.
So far, the only cast member that’s been confirmed is Jeremy Strong, best known for his role as Kendall in Succession. He has also been nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in The Apprentice.
I want to say, that if they handle The Boys from Brazil well, it might be a good series. However, it is 2025, and the chances of something good are slim, very slim.
More cast will be added to this new series for Netflix. In the meantime, it’s worth watching The Boys from Brazil again, because it’s a great movie.
