You can’t help but like Bredan Fraser. He’s had a rough time in Hollywood, but I know I’m glad to see him back. He’s in a new movie, Rental Family.
This looks…nice, no superheroes, no dinosaurs, just a nice family drama.
Rental Family stars Fraser, Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Nihi, Akira Emoto, and Shannon Gorman. Hikari is the writer and director, and co-write by Stephen Blahut. The story is:
A lonely American actor living in Tokyo starts working for a Japanese “rental family” company to play stand-in roles in other people’s lives. Along the way, he finds surprising connections and unexpected joys within his built-in family.
Apparently, in Japan, renting a family or a friend is a real thing. You can rent someone to hang out with, pretend to be your other half, or even a fake parent. I’ve been in contact with an agency over there to write my articles for the Last Movie Outpost. They read the website, and then they all said no.
Rental Family sees Fraser back on track with his career. He returned with flair, winning a well-deserved Oscar for The Whale.
Director, Hikari, is known for directing episodes of Beef, with Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, and Tokyo Vice, starring Ansel Elgort and Ken Watanabe. The latter series was produced by Michael Mann.
Rental Family is due out on the 21st of November.
