Landman is simply sublime. It is a real Outpost favorite. Yet another show from Taylor Sheridan. Yet another telling an unashamedly American story featuring the kind of people from the kind of places that don’t often make it to the screen.
The story follows Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) in the cutthroat world of oilfields in Texas, where roughnecks and wildcat billionaires are fueling a boom so big it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.
Filmed near Fort Worth in Texas, the ensemble cast features supporting actors like Andy Garcia, Demi Moore, Michael Pena, and Colm Feore, alongside Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, and James Jordan.
The way Landman effortlessly switches between boardroom and legal drama, family soap opera, and gang-related thriller drives the narrative and keeps you riveted, while Thornton’s sardonic lead navigates it all with a world weariness that any professional parent can relate to. It is also very funny in all the right places.
Can it possibly keep this up as it tackles the difficult second album? Well, we will find out this year. Paramount+ has announced that Landman will kick off its second season on Sunday, November 16th.
