There is taking a bath, and there is taking a bath. Baths will be both filled and taken at Disney around Tron: Ares. That bath will be deep. $132.7 million deep.
A report in Deadline says the budget was actually, on a net production basis, $220 million. This is a lot higher than the $170-180 million figure that is being thrown around. This cost included a Canadian tax credit. When week 2 of the movie only takes a total up to $103 million, with a 67% drop off, then the writing is on the wall.

The report breaks down the numbers as delivering a total revenue of $214.8 million.
The studio will keep $72.2 million of that. They will get $37.6 million from home entertainment, $100 million in global television rights, and $5 million the airlines. $214.8 million coming in.
Going out, there is $220 million budget, plus $102.5 million in global marketing spend, $10.8 million in “others” costs (paying themselves chair rental, etc.) and $14.2 million in residuals to various producers and talent with their hands out. That’s $347.5 million. Whoopsie.

As we said last week, Disney won’t be taking the franchise any further on the big screen, while Leto has taken a personal knock around Tron: Ares and Skeletor better be fun!
Not a great outcome, though. Disney has been churning slop for years, decided it needed to make more movies “for boys” and then when it made one, none of the boys turned up. Expect Snow White 2 to be greenlit now.
