Godzilla Minus One came. saw, and conquered. It basically embarrassed massive Hollywood productions by delivering a $15 million movie that looked better than most of their $250 million efforts.
Godzilla Minus One was classed as the second of the live-action Reiwa era movies, following 2016’s Shin Godzilla. It took place in a devastated post-war Japan as the national recovery is hit by a new threat.
It grossed $116 million and was the highest-grossing live-action film to debut in Japan during 2023. It went on to become the third highest-grossing non-English-language film in the U.S. market, and still ranks at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now, the sequel has been officially announced and titled – Godzilla Minus Zero.
The title was just announced this weekend at Godzilla Fest in Japan. It is styled as Godzilla -0.0.
The original film’s writer/director and VFX lead Takashi Yamazaki is returning alongside Shirogumi, Yamazaki’s company which handled the first film’s Oscar-winning visual effects.
