HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING Teaser

I vaguely remember the Hunger Games movies. I remember Jennifer Lawrence was good in them, and they were entertaining, but a few years later, that is about all I can recall about them. Oh no, hang on, I also remember that the annual Met Gala resembles the ludicrous denizens of Capitol, without a shred of irony.

Other than that, a head full of tumbleweed.

It appears, though, that the dead donkey will continue to be flogged. Lionsgate has released the teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Hunger-games

This is set 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, and follows Plutarch Heavensbee – the character played by Philip Seymour Hoffman in the original movies – as he meets 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch was played by Woody Harrelson last time around. This time, they will be played by Jesse Plemons and Joseph Zada, respectively.

The story unfolds in District 12, at the reaping of the Tributes for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Katniss Everdeen competed in the 74th Hunger Games.

The cast includes Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan, Billy Porter as Magno Stift, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, and Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow.

Francis Lawrence directs again, from a screenplay by Billy Ray, based on the brand new novel by original author Suzanne Collins. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson are producers.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping lands on November 20th, 2026.
