NARUTO Writer Talks Live-Action

I don’t know what a Naruto is. I think I have seen Akira twice, and both times I think I was stoned. Honestly, the whole manga/anime thing has kinda passed me by, culturally.

I am dimly aware of a “Naruto Run” from some things I have seen on social media, but otherwise, I am all at sea here.

However, fans of this genre seem to have got excited over an interview given by Tasha Huo, as she is co-writer on a live-action Naruto adaptation.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is on board to co-write and direct the film, and the director will start work on it as soon as he clears from Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

In an interview with Nexus Point News, Huo spoke about the approach she is taking to writing the character for live-action:

“For Naruto, it was to ground it, to make it feel real and believable in the world of a live-action movie. When you watch it or read it, it’s so bonkers. It’s so good, but it is so bonkers.

The rules you just sort of kind of take for granted because of the medium you’re watching it in, but once you translate it to real people saying real lines and needing to convey real plot. Yeah, that was the challenge but also the joy of it because they’re just so fun.”

Jeyun Munford, Jeremy Latcham, Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Emmy Yu will produce.

It is based on a popular manga story about teenage ninja trainees and, in particular, Naruto Uzumaki and his efforts to become protector of his village.

The property has been adapted in animation several times, but this is the first live-action attempt.
