AVATAR Dominates Christmas Box Office

Going to the movies on Christmas Day seems highly weird to much of the Western world, but it remains a thing in a few places. The USA is one of those places, and this year saw the Christmas Day box office have a bumper pay-day with the best numbers since somebody left that damn refrigerator door open in Wuhan.

Avatar: Fire and Ash rolled all before it, with $24 million on Jesus’ birthday alone, taking it to $153.6 million domestically after one week on release. Globally, it sits at £567 million alread, thus proving that anyone who bets against James Cameron and Pandora at the box office is going to lose.

Marty Supreme was a distant second, with $9.5 million on Christmas Day. The film is looking to be headed for a $20 million debut over the four-day weekend. It is already being touted as an awards darling.

Sony’s Anaconda did $9 million on Christmas Day, and is also headed towards a $20 million four-day start.

The rest of the top list is rounded out by Disney’s Zootopia 2 ($5.3 million), religious-themed David ($4.6 million), and Song Sung Blue ($4.4 million).
