AVATAR Continues To Dominate Box Office

Run from it, hide from it, but Avatar appears to be as close to a box office inevitability as any franchise these days.

James Cameron’s third instalment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, continued its box office domination into a 4th week with another $86 million into the pot.

It sits at $1.23 billion. It is probably going to slow down and not quite beat Avatar: The Way Of Water, and won’t touch the original Avatar, but it is still a money-making machine.

The sequel also passed Lilo & Stitch to become the second-highest-grossing Hollywood release of 2025 behind Zootopia 2.

None of these are close to the current box office champ that is Chinese phenom Ne Zha 2.

For decades, Bollywood movies outsold Hollywood on a tickets basis, but at Indian prices they didn’t make a dent in the global box office. Chinese purchasing power has changed that, selling more and making more money that Hollywood efforts.

Elsewhere, Sidney and her Sweeneys are powering on, with The Housemaid snagging $192.5 million worldwide. At $35 million budget, breaking that $200 million mark will be a massive achievement.

Anaconda passed $110 million this weekend, another success for a $45 million budget.

This feels like there is a lesson here for Hollywood. Nah… who are we kidding?

Paramount’s Primate opened domestically and in very few overseas territories and earned $11.3 million in the US and $13.4 million worldwide.

Greenland 2: Migration made $8.5 million domestically and $12.8 million worldwide.

The next few weeks sees 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple followed by Rental Family, and Mercy all making their way to theaters.
