One thing many Outposters have in common is that very few of us seem to bother watching the Oscars these days.
If we did, we would have seen a couple of pricelessly awkward moments.
Two People Exchanging Saliva short filmmaker Alexandre Singh found his speech cut short the microphone lowering down into the stage just as he approached it.

Then, when the writers of the song Golden from KPop Demon Hunters were accepting their award, just as singer/songwriter EJAE finished her short speech and handed the mic over to her colleague for their contribution, they were also played off.
As it wasn’t clear what was happening, they all remained on stage, hanging around awkwardly, before walking off.
In an interview with Variety, Walt Disney Television exec Rob Mills was asked about this and gave a response:
“One thing, as we post mortem for next year, will be to look at how we’re handling speeches. You win the Oscar, you know you go on stage, it could be one person, it could be five or six. Immediately you’ll see the sort of allotted time we have for them.
Do we need to look at it and say, okay, designate one person to speak. Maybe you continue it backstage, and we have a feed on social or something like that. We look at everything and figure out what is the most elegant solution, because it is difficult, especially when you’re cutting somebody off and it’s their one moment.
We talk about it at the award luncheon, that you have this designated time to speak, and it’s difficult. I don’t know what the most elegant solution is, but it’s obviously something we should look really, really long and hard at.”
The length of gushing awards speeches has always been an issue. In the past, awards would run long due to stars thanking everyone from their stylist to their cat for their contributions.
Sometimes in the past, stars would often take the opportunity to virtue signal their positions on the latest trending issues.
All this was semi-fixed by the practice of turning down the mic and turning up the music to signal it was time to – in the words of Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes – “just collect your little trophy and f*ck off!”
