Stallone & Tarantino To Team Up

Despite being in the running for a role in Jackie Brown, and for the lead in Death Proof, Sylvester Stallone and Quentin Tarantino have never worked together. According to a new report over at TMZ, that could all be about to change. The pair is said to be planning a limited series about gangsters, set in the 1930s.

This is a long-held desire for Tarantino, who has wanted to work on something in this time period for years, even going as far as using the original Star Trek episode A Piece Of The Action as the inspiration for his attempt at directing a Trek movie.

The post-depression era gave the US famous gangsters like Vito Genovese, Dutch Schultz, Jack “Legs” Diamond, Charles “Lucky” Luciano, John Dillinger, and Bugsy Siegel. The most famous of them all was, arguably, Al Capone.

We talk about Hollywood’s long and complicated history with “the mob” in one of our Hollywood History articles.

The reports say that this will be a six-episode limited series that features “shootouts, boxing, showgirls, brass bands”, and all the usual period gangster accoutrements. The big news is that Tarantino will write, and they will both direct episodes. This would be Sly’s first television directing gig.

Plot details remain a secret, but the report also says that the show will be shot in black and white, using 1930s cameras…

…and it just disappeared up its own ass.
