TINTIN Sequel Finally Moving

It has only taken fifteen years, but it seems there is finally movement on a sequel to The Adventures Of Tintin.

The only notable thing to have come out of Belgium since chocolate and colonial barbarity, Tintin maintains an inexplicably lofty position in popular culture.

Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg made a deal. Spielberg would direct the first movie and Jackson would produce it, then they would switch for a sequel.

Peter Jackson is attending the Cannes Film Festival this week to recieve an honorary Palme d’Or. While out doing press, he confirmed that work has finally started. As reported by Screen Daily:

“I’ve been working with Fran [Walsh, Jackson’s partner] on another Tintin script, I was writing it in the hotel room here. It’s an active real thing, and I’m getting back into the Tintin world, and I actually love it.”

This marks a departure from the first movie, where the writers included Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, and Doctor Who showrunner (at the time) Steven Moffat.

Jackson also mentioned his deal with Spielberg:

“The deal was that Steven directs one and I direct another. Steven did his film, then for 15 years [later] I haven’t made mine. I feel very awkward about that.”

He also remains fascinated by the idea of making a movie about one of the world’s most famous bombing raids – The Dambusters:- and talked about the impact of AI on movies:

“I don’t dislike it at all, to me it’s just a special effect.

The only thing with AI that’s critical is you don’t AI an actor or somebody without their approval. Just as you can’t adapt a book that somebody has written without owning the rights to the book.”

The Adventures of Tintin grossed $374 million from a $135 million budget.

It was based on the loose outline of three books – The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham’s Treasure.

No confirmation yet of which books Jackson and Walsh will use for their inspiration.
