No, not a remake of Nicholas Winding Refn’s touchstone neo-noir thriller. This is something different. Nia DaCosta (Candyman, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple) is to direct Mahershala Ali in Driver.
According to a report at World of Reel, Driver will follow a hardened Nigerian smuggler who, after losing everything, accepts one last job transporting migrants across Africa while fleeing ruthless enemies.

Maybe the happy ending will feature him demanding reparations from Britain while glossing over the awkward reality?
Driver is set to be independently financed, and no studio is currently involved, but it is expected to attract buyers at the various upcoming movie markets this summer. Filming is set to start in Spain and Morocco in January, because you can’t film Central Africa in actual Central Africa these days.

DaCosta is pretty busy these days, working on episodes of Amazon Prime Video’s Sex Criminals, and exec producing and writing Southern Bastards for Hulu. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple got excellent reviews, but audiences didn’t turn out for it. Definitely feels like one to check out on streaming now.
