We reported on Whalefall two years ago, when 20th Century Studios won the bidding war for the rights.
It was set up by Imagine Entertainment and based on a recently published novel by bestseller Daniel Kraus.
The thriller is describes as:
“The Martian meets 127 Hours”
Owen King, a New York Times bestselling author, described the book as:
“…smart, surreal, and powerfully humane…”
The story follows a scuba diver who goes in search of his deceased father’s remains. During his search, he gets swallowed by an eighty-foot, sixty-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out.

Initially giving up on life, the despondent young man is surprised to find a reason to live in this most dangerous and unlikely of places – inside a whale.
Now, there’s a teaser.
Great. As a scuba diver, this is a new fear unlocked, as if we don’t have enough to worry about down there.
Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) directs, and co-writes with the author.
Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Allan Mandelbaum are set to produce.
Whalefall will be released on October 16th.
