The Accountant was great fun. The 2016 action thriller followed autistic forensic accountant Christian (Ben Affleck) who is called upon by various criminal enterprises to audit their financial activities, including money laundering. He’s also a stone-cold killer.
It was sort of a socially awkward Equalizer. An autistic Nobody. A strong supporting cast of Anna Kendrick, J. K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow helped elevate it. It made back more than triple its budget, despite criticism over its portrayal of autism, so a sequel was guaranteed.
Now more details have been released about The Accountant 2, including some of the first images.
Original The Accountant director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) is back in the director’s chair, with Bill Dubuque once again handling the script. Affleck returns as Christian, with the characters of Brax (Bernthal), U.S. Treasury investigator Ray King (Simmons), and Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Addai-Robinson) also back.
In the sequel, Marybeth Medina contacts Christian to help her find the assassins responsible for the murder of someone close to her. Christian reconnects with an estranged Brax as he applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle. As they get closer to the truth, the trio draws the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive — all intent on putting a stop to their search for the truth.
The Accountant 2, from Amazon MGM Studios, arrives in theaters on 25th April this year, with a premiere at SXSW.
