If you are an Outposter of a certain age, as many of us are, it is fair to say that Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman made a huge impression on you. There she was, on our televisions, making it slowly dawn on us that maybe girls weren’t that bad, after all.
And just like that, an entire generation of young boys were rendered powerless…
A few years later there was Princess Leia in her Jabba’s palace outfit, and between that one-two sucker punch, our fate was sealed. Our days of Lego were over. We were on this team, and nothing was going to change it!
So it was a nice surprise when she turned up in the post-credits scene for the otherwise awful Wonder Woman 1984, bringing to mind a famous saying about fine wine.
In the cameo scene at the end of Patty Jenkins’ sequel, she appeared as Asteria, a legendary Amazonian warrior previously thought dead. Immediately there was speculation that Wonder Woman 3 would see Gal Gadot and Carter unite on screen.
Then the DCEU was killed stone dead, and Wonder Woman 3 was canceled.
In a new interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Carter said this might not have just been fan speculation. She knew of the plans for the third movie and she was going to return. She would not give details, but simply said it was:
“…really interesting, wonderful, and about something important. Not just your typical thing.”
She also said she can’t see Wonder Woman 3 happening now, at all. goes on to say that there’s no chance of a third film happening without obvious public support from fans:
“I don’t think they want to do it unless there’s enough pressure from fans. I just don’t think they have the mind to do it. And I don’t understand that, because it seems to me that Wonder Woman is different from other characters. She’s not just a superhero. Her whole thing is about peaceful solutions. She’s not aggressive to be aggressive. It’s a different story. It’s about inner strength, outer strength. I don’t know why they tabled it, because it’s a great franchise.”
There are no current Wonder Woman plans in this chapter of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe.
