A great philosopher once wrote, naughty, naughty, very naughty. Now unleash Jason Statham in leopard-print pants! Hold on. I might have got the wrong Ebenezer here. Wait one…
Ok, right. It turns out that this one features Johnny Depp, proving that having a woman take a shit in your bed and then have a meltdown in court might not be a career killer after all. Welcome back, Johnny. Now, make Disney get that Captain Jack Sparrow cash out and ready.
Yesterday, a poster and then a trailer dropped for Paramount Pictures’ Ebenezer, from director Ti West. It won’t surprise you to discover that Ebenezer is a new take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

Johnny Depp plays Ebenezer Scrooge, and he turned up at Comic Con in full costume and make-up to promote the movie that had been flying under the radar until now. The marketing blurb for the movie describes it as a:
“…thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, following one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance”.
It has a decent cast. Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present and Daisy Ridley as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
There is also Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, Sam Claflin as Fred, Charlie Murphy and Ellie Bamber as the Fezziwigs, Nicholas Day as a Minister, and Arthur Conti as a young Ebenezer.
Ebenezer was written by Nathaniel Halpern with Emma Watts producing. It was shot early this year in London and Dublin.
Ebenezer arrives in theaters on November 13th.
