Cameron Diaz was taking a break from acting. She was in a self-declared semi-retirement since the Annie remake in 2014. She stepped back into work for a Netflix project with Jamie Foxx – Back In Action – that is expected later this year on the streamer. Now she is rumored to be in fonal negotiations to star alongside Keanu Reeves in Outcome.

According to Deadline, this is a dark comedy directed by Jonah Hill and set up at Apple Studios. It is written by by Hill and Ezra Woods. The report says the story follows Reef (Reeves), a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past and confront his demons to make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip.

No details are known on what Diaz’s role might be.

Hill will also star in Outcome as well as directing. He is producing alongside Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin. He will complete Outcome before moving on to a Grateful Dead biopic with Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions at Apple.

Hill has directed before, on A24s skateboard drama Mid90s for A24.

Diaz made her film debut at the age 21 opposite Jim Carrey in the comedy The Mask (1994). Following a supporting role in the romantic comedy My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997), she starred as the titular character in the Farrelly brothers’ comedy There’s Something About Mary (1998), which brought her increased fame and her first Golden Globe nomination. Her following two projects – the sports drama Any Given Sunday and Spike Jonze’s fantasy film Being John Malkovich (both 1999) – added dramatic credibility to her comedy resume.

In 2010, Forbes ranked Diaz as the richest female celebrity, ranking her number 60 among the wealthiest 100.

Diaz decided to take a break from acting following the release of Annie, stating in July 2017 that she had become tired of traveling for filming, and confirmed her retirement the following March.
