The seemingly endless rationalization of the video game industry continues with the news that EA is shutting down Cliffhanger Games and cancelling Black Panther.
The industry continues to suffer from no longer being driven by a bunch of nerdy yet passionate guys slinging code in a shed somewhere, and instead being SuperMegaGloboCorp that thought hiring Sweet Baby Inc was a good idea.
According to a report at IGN, the staff affected includes experienced teams from games like Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Halo Infinite, God of War and Call of Duty.
Black Panther was a project in collaboration with Marvel Games.
In an email from EA Entertainment president Laura Miele, staff were told that the cancellation was to:
“…sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.”
Tis means in the works titles like Iron Man and a third Star Wars: Jedi game will continue.
