THUNDERBOLTS Stalling Out

A few weeks before it was released, a few of us at LMO said that we had a feeling that Thunderbolts would turn out to be good, but nobody would go to see it. Unfortunately it looks like we might have been correct.

Thunderbolts has reviewed well, and almost every Outposter who has seen it reported back positively. It is widely held to be a step up from recent Marvel efforts.

Despite this, and it clinging on at the box office in the top five, it looks like its run may be ending.

Thunderbolts

Four weeks out from release and it is in fourth place globally at the box office with $355 million taken.

It was estimated to need between $450 million and $500 million to make a profit.

The current haul places it ahead to The Marvels and The Incredible Hulk ($206m and $264m respectively), but just behind Captain America: The First Avenger ($370m), Black Widow ($379m) and Eternals ($402m).

Now, Forbes is reporting that it will start to be pulled from some screens from next week.

Disney would then start to focus on the PVOD release strategy for Thunderbolts. Recent Marvel efforts have veered towards a slightly longer release window than the now-standard, COVID-inflicted 45 days.
