Where next for the MCU, and how? That is what many commentators are frequently asking, including us. With Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon, it looks like we might get some answers. For so long, the MCU rested on the shoulders of the three main leads Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Thor Odinson.
One is dead. One is retired elderly. One is on the other side of the galaxy with an adopted daughter. With some on the new roster not seemingly catching the audience’s imagination, what do they plan to do about it?
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige spoke at Singapore’s Disney APAC Content Showcase. Deadline reported that he spoke about the upcoming new intros into the MCU and how they will figure. On Fantastic Four, he said:
“We’re bringing Marvel’s First Family into the MCU. They wrap next week, the movie comes out next summer, and then all those characters go right into the next Avengers movies, so I’m very excited for the future of the Fantastic Four.”
He also seemed to say that there will be a gradual introduction of other characters, including some:
“…X-Men players that you might recognize…”
He then said that Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027 will be the big entrance of the X-Men:
“The whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”
Those of you who remember the Secret Wars comic will know that the X-Men were placed on the hero side when The Beyonder assembled his armies so he could observe them fight on Battleworld. They quickly split away and formed their own faction, loosely allied with the hero contingent. This was due to their general mistrust following years of discrimination as mutants.
Will they first be revealed in the MCU as being summoned by The Beyonder after being in hiding for decades?
